The Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge combines our more than 30 years expertise running equal-car racing championships with Mazda’s iconic MX-5 Miata sports car. Closely following our open-wheel Formula 2000 Race Series in format and philosophy, the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge is specifically designed to be financially and geographically accessible. As a rung on the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder for sports cars, the MAZDASPEED Challenge is also a place where the aspiring professional racer can get their start.

Each Mazda MX-5 Cup car is built by the Skip Barber team, with specifications closely matched to those of the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. Skip Barber professionals conduct all the testing and equalization.

While aspiring professional racers are beginning to see it as a part of their training regimen, the majority of drivers in the MAZDASPEED Challenge are just like you; men and women between 15 and 65 years old who love motorsport and have found a tremendously fun, worry-free way to race, as a hobby or avocation. The mix of equal cars, the arrive-and-drive format (we bring everything, from the cars to the racing suits) hospitality and the fantastic camaraderie between all the competitors bring many drivers back year after year. With two MAZDASPEED Challenge seasons – Summer and Winter – so that no matter the time of year, there is always racing available. You can do just one Race Weekend – or as many as you like!

There are eligibility requirements, but if you are a graduate of the Skip Barber Three Day Racing School (F2000 or MAZDASPEED) or another recognized competition course, you are only a few ''Advanced Activities'' away from taking your first green flag!
