SKIP BARBER TWO DAY SUPERBIKE SCHOOL
Overview
The Skip Barber Superbike School Powered by KTM uses KTM’s two most powerful and
exciting motorcycles, the 1190 RC8 and the 1190 RC8 R. The RC8 and the RC8 R are
world-class superbike machines, the kind only KTM can build. By utilizing these
two motorcycles participants will experience a true superbike school on first class
exotic European machinery not offered anywhere else. The goal is to give students
the tools to ride safer, faster and more consistently in all environments. The school
is held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the home of the United States MotoGP round
and one of the most exciting and technical road racing circuits in the country.
The school takes an in-depth look at this world famous circuit, including how to
effectively navigate the infamous “corkscrew” and the Andretti hairpin. Along with
the fantastic track, nearby Carmel and Monterey offer some of the world’s best hotels,
restaurants, and ocean-front scenery. There simply is no better place to spend a
few days on track and off.
Teaching Experience
Skip Barber has been teaching people to go fast for 35 years at the top circuits
with the best professional instructors in the United States. We have used the knowledge
and experience gained from training thousands of students, along with top talent
to create a new motorcycle curriculum that is effective, technical and fun. You
will learn an approach to riding and racing which will allow you to master the motorcycle
on any track. With lots of seat time and lots of feedback, you will quickly improve
your ability to control the motorcycle at any speed in a relaxed and safe manner.
Teaching Style
We have a patient and fun approach to teaching. Our instructors are not only great
motorcycle racers, they are also great teachers. We use alternating track and classroom
sessions plus instant video feedback and on-track lapping sessions to provide you
with maximum opportunity to understand and develop the theories that will make you
a safer, faster and more consistent motorcycle rider or racer. Riders will experience
a variety of exercises designed to help them learn to control their motorcycle on
the track and on the street. Demonstrations and practice drills on body position,
threshold braking, trail braking, down shifting, and throttle application and management
will help you learn how to keep the motorcycle settled in all situations, enabling
you to be safe, fast and consistent all at the same time. In addition to these theories
you will learn how to read the track so you can place your motorcycle for optimum
speed and minimal effort. All exercises and theories are explained in advance of
practice drills, then video feedback is used to measure and check your progress.
