”Fore!” Fifteen LPGA players giving up golf to take up race car driving
May 02, 2005Monday, May 02, 2005 Fore!
Fifteen LPGA players are giving up the game of golf to take up race car driving.
Okay, the first part of that statement is not true.
But the second part is.
Tuesday, May 24, beginning around 10:30 a.m. until about 1:30 or so, as part of the preliminary activities to the Corning Classic (Corning Country Club, 6,062 yards, par 72, Corning, N.Y.), 15 of the ladies entered into the tournament have elected to lay down their drivers for a day in order to… drive.
Charlotta Sorenstam, left (yes, Anika’s sister) and Catherine Cartwright are two of the 15 lady golfers ready to drive.
At Watkins Glen International, the famous NASCAR-owned road course race track, Skip Barber Racing will conduct a special ”Intro” clinic to teach the LPGA-ers the basics of driving a 125-mph Formula Dodge R/T 2000 race car.
This is going to be way fun — possibly earth shatteringly so — so you Skippy racers may want to show up a pinch early to watch.
