Masters National to Support Grand-Am Rolex at The Glen

Wednesday, March 28, 2007 LAKEVILLE, Conn. – The Masters Division of the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda will be at Watkins Glen International June 8-10 supporting the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series event, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. This is traditionally a big spectator event, with a full slate of support series over the weekend, including Skip Barber.

This is the one stand-alone race weekend for the National’s Masters Division drivers. The Watkins Glen date will be rounds five and six for the Masters, a separately scored championship for drivers 40 and older, similar to the Star Mazda system.

At this point the schedule looks to have pre-event testing (Lapping Day) on Thursday, June 7, plus separate qualifiers for each race.

Uniquely, any licensed race car driver, including any other Skip Barber Race Series competitors, may also enter the event. Two years ago, F1, Champ Car, Atlantic and F3000 ace Roberto Moreno entered one of the two Skip Barber races at the Sahlen’s Six Hours, coming from last in the 26-car field to 11th at the checker.

(NOTE: All drivers competing in any race at Watkins Glen, including Skip Barber races, must be 18 or older, per New York State law.)

If you are interested in entering the Skip Barber races at Watkins Glen, please call the Race Series office at 800.221.1131.

Two years ago, Masters competitors Sy Aryeh (c.) and Dick Lippert (r.) finished one – three in the first of the two Skip Barber races at the Sahlen’s at The Glen.

In the 2007 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda openers at the Sebring 12-Hour, Dick Lippert (41) edged Jeff Kaiser (47) in both races in the Masters Division.
