Indy 500: Five of the top 10 are SBRS trainedMay 27, 2008
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Five of the top 10 drivers across the finish line in last week’s Indy 500 were Skip Barber-trained. Marco Andretti was the highest finisher, coming home third, with the next three drivers also SBRS alumnus: Helio Castroneves, Ed Carpenter and Ryan Hunter-Reay. (RH-R was also recognized as the Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, which comes with a $25,000 bonus on top of the $328,065 for his sixth-place.) Townsend Bell was 10th.
Andretti was the 2003 Skip Barber Eastern Series champion, the 2003-2004 Southern Series champion and the 2004 Skip Barber National champion. Hunter-Reay was the 1999 Skip Barber National champion who then went on to finish fifth in the 2000 Barber Pro Series and fifth again in 2001, tallying up a total of two wins and a pole position.
The eight other SBRS-trained drivers at Indy were: Dan Wheldon (12th), John Andretti (16th), Milka Duno (19th), Danica Patrick (22nd), Ernesto Viso (26th), Jeff Simmons (28th), Tony Kanaan (29th) and Sarah Fisher (30th).
