Reigning BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda champion Conor Daly started his preparations for the 2009 season when he completed 120 laps on the Sebring short course November 17 in an Andersen Racing Star Mazda. He was joined for the day by fellow Skip Barber National competitor and Team USA driver Josef Newgarden, as well as the winner of the final round of the 2008 Star Mazda Championship, British driver Richard Kent.
Although feeling the effects of neck fatigue, at the end of the day Daly did a simulated qualifying run on new tires. Derek Daly said Conor not only set the fastest time of the day but also set the fastest time ever for a Star Mazda on the Sebring short course. Daly’s off-season testing continues with JDC Racing at Buttonwillow November 19 and 20, before moving to Infineon Raceway where he will test with World Speed Racing November 26.
Sixteen year old Conor Daly, son of former Formula One/Indy Car driver turned TV commentator Derek Daly, won the 2008 Skip Barber Racing National championship in addition to becoming the Ontario Formula Ford Championship Rookie of the Year driving a Brian Graham Racing VanDiemen. Driving for Team USA, Conor also won the Walter Hayes Trophy for Formula Fords in Silverstone, England. Conor is sponsored by Skip Barber Racing, INDECK Forsythe Racing, Cytomax Performance Drink, Pedigo Chevrolet, The College Network, Tom Lange Company, Aprilia and Alpinestars.
