Skip Barber Launches Formula 2000 Summer Series
Dec 03, 2008Wednesday, December 03, 2008 LAKEVILLE, Conn. – Skip Barber Racing School LLC today announced its 2009 Formula 2000 Summer Series schedule, a 14-race championship that begins in early May. Driven by competitor response, this season the Midwestern and Eastern Race Series have been combined into the largest amateur race series in North America. All races will be contested in identical Skip Barber Formula 2000 single-seat racecars.
“Over the last few years we have conducted several combined events within our various regional race series and the feedback from competitors has been very favorable,” said Skip Barber vice president of racing Todd Snyder. “By combining our Eastern and Midwestern Series our drivers will now compete at many of the best racetracks North America has to offer. This new Summer Series also provides drivers with more competition, more awards, and more fun,” Snyder added.
The 2009 Summer Series opens at Virginia International Raceway in early May and concludes at Lime Rock Park in October with the inaugural Skip Barber Festival of Speed where it will join the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda and the MAZDASPEED Challenge Summer Series for their respective season finales.
In between are events at historic tracks like Watkins Glen International, Road America and a perennial favorite among series drivers: Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada. All seven Skip Barber Formula 2000 Summer Series race weekends include two races per weekend, plus practice, qualifying, Skip Barber coaching and hospitality services. The series offers both a Championship group and a Masters group for drivers over 40 years old.
Now in its 34th year, the Skip Barber Race Series is the largest and oldest continuously operating open-wheel “arrive and drive” amateur championship in North America. Each year, hundreds of drivers take part in exciting, fun and hassle-free open-wheel racing in identically-prepared formula cars.
