Skip Barber National Drivers Compete at Formula Ford Festival
Oct 18, 2010Monday, October 18, 2010 Lakeville, Conn (October 18, 2010). Last month at the 13th Annual running of Petit Le Mans Road Atlanta, Skip Barber National Drivers Spencer Pigot, 17, and Felix Serralles, 18, were selected as winners in the Team USA Shootout Scholarship, both earning rides to compete in the Formula Ford Festival last weekend. Each driver each had their own setbacks of the weekend, but both drivers were satisfied with their results with Pigot finishing in fourth and Serralles winning his Last Chance Qualifier.
Pigot, the 2010 Skip Barber National Champion and Rookie of the Year not only earned the pole for the Heat race, but set the fastest lap of the race in the Final as well. Starting eleventh, Pigot patiently worked his way up to fourth by lap five. “I’m a bit disappointed,” said Pigot. “I got fastest lap of the race and was the fastest guy and didn’t get on the podium, but I learned a lot and overall it’s been a great experience.”
In the Semi Final, Serralles impressively climbed from 23rd to 10th in two laps, a victim of mechanical problems, he ultimately finished fourteenth. For the Final, Serralles started 25th and unfortunately had contact on the first lap. The weekend was a great learning experience for both drivers and grateful for the opportunity, Serralles was still satisfied. “It was just unfortunate,” said Serralles, “but at least I got to the Final. That’s what I was looking for, and it was cool to win the race, too…Overall, it’s been a great week.”
