Winners to compete in Karting Scholarship Shootout, Nov. 4-6, Sebring International Raceway
BRASELTON, Ga. (May 2, 2013) Skip Barber Racing School is proud to announce a partnership with the International Kart Federation Region 7 Championship Series and the creation of the 2013 IKF Skip Barber Challenge.
This special competition is open to IKF members ages 13-25 racing in the IKF Region 7 Championship Series in the Spec PRD Senior and Spec PRD Junior 2 classes. Candidates compete for Skip Barber prizes including a guaranteed entry into the 2013 Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shootout. The shootout is at Sebring International Raceway, November 4-6, 2013.
The 2013 IKF Challenge will begin at the May 24-26 race at Grange Motor Circuit in Apple Valley, CA. Rules and eligibility information can be found at www.ikfkarting-r7.com.
The prize packages for the competition are:
- First Place Prize: one 3-Day Skip Barber Racing School ($4000), plus one guaranteed 2013 Karting Shootout Entry ($3000) – Total retail value $7000
- Second Place Prize: one 3-Day Skip Barber Racing School ($4000), plus a preferred entry into the 2013 karting shootout – Total retail value $4000
- Third Place Prize: preferred entry into the 2013 Karting Shootout
Because IKF is an outstanding karting proving ground, Skip Barber Racing School will guarantee the first place winner of the 2013 IKF Skip Barber Challenge a seat in the 18th annual Skip Barber Racing School Karting Scholarship Shootout. The winner of the Karting Scholarship Shootout is awarded a fully funded seat in the 2014 Skip Barber Regional Race Series, which represents the first step in the Mazda Road to Indy ladder program.
The Karting Scholarship Shootout is a program exclusively for karters who desire to transition into racing cars. It combines guidance and evaluation, both on and off the track, by a panel of motorsports experts into an intensive 3-day racing experience. Participants will also take part in seminars on a variety of pertinent topics including; media training, driver development and sponsorship.
Karting Scholarship Shootout participants compete for a total of $65,000 in scholarships toward the 2013-2014 Skip Barber Race Series.
To be eligible for the shootout, drivers must have karting experience and complete a Skip Barber 3 Day Racing School. Some additional advanced activities are allowed. Complete eligibility details are available on skipbarber.com.
The International Kart Federation is a membership driven organization providing rules for strong and fair competition at local, regional, and national levels. The International Kart Federation has a long history as a governing body for the sport of karting, having published its first rule book in 1957. Rules are reviewed and updated each year to keep pace with changing trends and technologies in the sport. Many professional racers got their start in motorsports by racing karts at IKF events.
