BRASELTON, Ga. (May 22, 2013) – Skip Barber Racing School is proud to have 14 alumni racing in the 97th Indianapolis 500.
Defending IZOD IndyCar Series Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, 3-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves and this year’s pole-sitter Ed Carpenter headline the 14 Skip Barber Racing School alumni in the field that includes past Scholarship Shootout and Race Series champions.
As the Gateway to Motorsports, Skip Barber Racing School is also excited to recognize alumnusand co-owner of the Barracuda Racing INDYCAR team Bryan Herta who is hosting 2012 INDYCAR Academy Shootout winner Andre Gomes (right).
“I’ve watched very few races in my life and none nearly as prestigious as the Indy 500,” said Gomes at a recent Skip Barber race weekend. “However, as excited as I am to watch the race, it won’t be the best part about being there. I’ll also be getting a garage tour, which I’m extremely excited for. To look at the cars up close and meet Bryan’s crew will be very special. This is a great opportunity for me and something I’ll never forget.”
Herta (right) has granted Gomes a hospitality and garage pass to be part of the Barracuda Racing team for
this year’s Indy 500. Gomes will receive a garage tour from Mr. Herta himself, meet the Barracuda Racing driver Alex Tagliani, network during the event and experience the starting grid before the race.
“Andre demonstrated a ton of talent and potential during the Indycar Academy Shootout,” said Herta in between practice sessions at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “Providing Andre a behind the scenes look at our team at the biggest race in the world will surely advance his understanding of the dedication and teamwork that is required to succeed in top level motorsports. We look forward to hosting Andre and continuing to support the driver development initaitives from the Skip Barber Racing School.”
