ROUNDS 3 AND 4 OF SKIP BARBER WINTER SERIES COMPLETED, RACERS SET THIER SIGHTS ON HOMESTEAD

Stern

Braselton, Ga. (December 26, 2014) -Skip Barber racers wrapped up another race weekend in the 2014-2015 Skip Barber Winter Race Series last week as they competed in rounds 3 and 4 at Sebring International Raceway. One of this weekend’s stars was Nikko Reger  who earned two first place victories in group 3 at Sebring International Raceway. Racer Jeffrey Stern was another notable standout from the weekend. He earned a first place podium finish and dominated Group 2.

The weekend also brought a first Skip Barber Race Series win for Zach Claman and great wins by Neil Verhagen and MX-5 racer Sarah Montgomery.

Group 1 – Race 1

The first race of the weekend kicked off with some fantastic MX-5 racing from familiar Skip Barber Series drivers. Returning racers Sarah Montgomery and Pablo Caballedo had contact in Turn 17 early in the race allowing Bryan Hixon to break the draft and win the race by 19 seconds, also leaving the weekend with the fastest race lap and setting a new track record. Montgomery remained strong, however, and followed shortly behind Hixon. Pablo Cabellado followed closely behind Hixon and secured third place.

Group 2 – Race 1

The first race for the formula racers showcased an amusing tug of war between new racer Neil Verhagen and veteran Jeffrey Stern. In the end, Verhagen maintained the fastest average speed, which allowed him to keep his lead, with Stern only a few seconds behind him. Timo Reger had  the best lap time of 2:28.226 and earned a spot on the podium with a 3rd place finish.

Group 3- Race 1 MAZDASPEED Challenge

The first race for Group 3 was dominated by rising star Nikko Reger. Reger managed to make plenty of cushion room throughout the race to secure his well deserved first place spot by more than 17 seconds. The battle for second place was a different story, however, with  Felix Borodaty and  Paul Fisk staying on each other’s backs for the entirety of the race. By the end of lap nine, Borodaty finished the race in second place with Paul Fisk finishing 1.8 seconds behind him.

Group 4 – Race 1

For Group 4, Race 1, rising racer Zach Claman demonstrated that he’s learned a thing or two in class and won his first Skip Barber Series race victory with a comfortable 9-second difference. Dakota Dickerson followed behind Claman, maintaining the fastest speed and finishing the race in second place. The fastest lap time for the race of 2:28.94 was set by returning racer Konrad Czaczyk. Czacyk could not maintain that consistency throughout the nine laps, however, and finished the race with a solid third place podium spot.

Group 1 – Race 2

In Race 2 for Group 1, Byran Hixon showcased his grit and determination and finished the weekend with a first place finish. Hixon finished lap 9 of the race with a first place podium spot. Pablo Carballedo did not give Hixon the win without putting up a fight, however, following directly behind Hixon by only a couple of seconds. Carballedo’s second place finish in Race 2 was his second podium finish of the weekend. Sarah Montgomery had the fastest lap of the race but unfortunately hooked a wheel after dropping two in the carousel, setting up a pass to take the lead from Hixon. Paul Fisk also earned his second podium finish of the weekend, landing a solid third place finish in the race.

Group 2 – Race 2

Jeffrey Stern continued to give spectators a show as he fought diligently for the win he felt he deserved in the first race. Starting in 3rd for the race, Stern gradually crawled up the ladder to lead the pack and finish the race in first place. The racer to watch, however, was Timo Reger. The racer displaying the number 19 made a spectacular comeback fighting his way to a second place after starting in 12th. Reger left viewers breathless until the end when he finshed only two-tenths of a second behind Stern. Michael Benyahia didn’t let up in race, starting in fourth and maintained enough focus to climb a spot to earn 3rd place in the race.

Group 3 – Race 2

Nikko Reger continued to dominate group 3 in the second race of the weekend and finished in first place for the second time. Racer Larry Webster raced formidably, only yielding to Reger and finishing the race in second place. Webster had a formidable opponent in Chris Kopitski who stayed focus and followed behind for third.

The first bout of 2015 in the Skip Barber Winter Series will take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway on January 14. Racers will stay in Flordia for Rounds five and six of the Skip Barber Winter Series and the weekend will again feature both formula and MX-5 cup car thrills.  For the latest updates, visit skipbarber.com or check out the official Skip Barber Facebook page.
