eRace Series – Round 7 – Bridgehampton – Results

For Round 7, we took a trip back in time to a racetrack that was home to many Skip Barber Race Series through the 1990’s: Bridgehampton. Located in Long Island, New York, drivers will need to learn this track that Skip Barber Lead Instructor Bruce MacInnnes described as: “All who have raced there know that the earth is flat and ends in the sand at turn two. The emotional rewards of driving this turn ‘flat out’ are just as intense as the physical consequences of blowing it”.

Coming in to Round 7, Johnny Guindi held a 49 point lead in the Championship over Cadwalader. If Johnny could extend this lead to over 70 points, he would clinch the Championship. Coming into race day, Ed Kerstetter was fan favorite for the Bridgehampton races, having set the fastest lap in the Hot Lap Qualifier, though Guindi claim pole position on race day.

Bridgehampton is an extremely fast track, providing few passing opportunities, meaning starting position would critical. At the start of Race 1, Guindi off a great start held first but de Vries and Kerstetter applied pressure the entire first lap. Contact between de Vries and Guindi in turn 2 of lap 2 would see them both fall back in the pack giving Ed Kerstetter the opportunity to lead the race. After several lead changes, Josh Jablonski would claim his first podium finish and the win. Close behind were Ed Kerstetter and Nathan Saxon.

One thing the racers learned is that Bridgehampton punishes drivers that make mistakes, a narrative that would continue in to Race 2. For one of the first times, Johnny Guindi would have to start from mid-pack and battle his way to the front if he wanted to step on the podium. After 15 minutes of fierce competition, it would be Ed Kerstetter that would claim the win, followed by Nathan Saxon and Sven de Vries.

Heading in to the Championship finale, Johnny Guindi leads with 449 points, followed by Nathan Saxon with 404 points and Thomas Cadwalader with 396 points.

For Round 8, we head back to where the season started, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Don’t forget to tune in on Sunday July 12th at 3PM EST to see who will claim the ultimate prize in motorsports: a season in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series.
