Skip Barber Alumni Sweep the NASCAR Weekend at Talladega!Apr 25, 2022
Fresh off his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at Circuit of the Americas, Ross Chastain picked up the win on the high banks of Talladega this past weekend. Chastain put his No. 1 TrackHouse Racing Chevrolet in a wild last lap in the perfect position to lead at the checkered flag. After being in the mix at the front of the field for most of the race, Kyle Busch piloted his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing in the third position. Both Chastain and Busch trained with the Skip Barber Racing School at the Circuit of the Americas. The “Watermelon Man” returned to Skip Barber to sharpen his road course racing skills with an advanced coaching session at Road Atlanta.
Skip Barber graduate Noah Gragson was able to jump to the lead in the final overtime restart and held on to win the Xfinity Series race. It would be the first Talladega win, second win this season, and seventh in his career for the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet driver. 2002 Barber Dodge Pro Series Champion A.J. Allmendinger brought home his No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet on the last step of the podium, dodging the chaos in the final restarts of the race.
