Perez wins Singapore, Allmendinger wins Talladega – Alumni Report

Sergio Perez claimed the victory in the wet-weather Singapore Grand Prix that featured two safety cars, three virtual cautions, and six retirements. Perez led the entire race after overtaking Charles Leclerc at the start to secure the fourth F1 victory of his career. The driver of the No. 11 for Red Bull Racing sits third in the points standings with only five races remaining in the 2022 season. Perez competed in the Skip Barber Race Series in 2014.

Michael McDowell finished third in the NASCAR Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway. McDowell’s third-place finish at Talladega marks his second Top 3 finish of the season, his first Top 3 came at Sonoma in June. The driver of the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford has placed in the Top 10 eleven times this year. Ross Chastain had a great run, placing the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Team Chevrolet in the fourth-place position. Going into the final round of 12 in the NASCAR Playoffs, Chastain sits comfortably in third with fellow Skip Barber grads Joey Logano in fifth and Austin Cindric below the cutline in ninth.

With his first XFINITY Series superspeedway win, A.J. Allmendinger advances to the next round of the NASCAR Playoffs. The driver of the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet won in a photo finish by a near margin of 0.015. The Dinger’s Talladega win marks his fourth win and an astonishing 25th Top 10 finish of the season. Skip Barber alumni occupy three of the Top 4 positions in the Playoff standings with Allmendinger on top, Noah Gragson in second, and Austin Hill in fourth.

Christian Eckes placed fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Eckes was one of only two Playoff drivers to finish in the Top 10 at Talladega. With only one more round to determine the championship final four, half of the Round of 8 drivers are Skip Barber graduates. Chandler Smith leads the Skip Barber efforts in second place, Eckes is ranked fifth, John Hunter Nemechek sits in seventh, and Grant Enfinger rounds out the Top 8.
