When the green flag drops on the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 29, thirty-three drivers will stand on the accelerator and focus their racing best for the next dizzying 500 miles. 1/3 of those drivers will have something very much in common. They are all Skip Barber Racing School alumni. Included in that number will be two past winners who honed their skills in the red, black and white livery of Skip Barber Racing. Juan Pablo Montoya is a two-time winner, kissing the bricks in 2000 and then again in 2015. Alexander Rossi took the Indy checkered flag in 2016 for the 100th running. Ten other Skip Barber Racing School alumni will be in the field. Highest qualifier Ed Carpenter will roll off from the second row. Josef Newgarden, Santino Ferrucci, JR Hildebrand, Conor Daly, Sage Karem, Marco Andretti, Colton Herta, and Kyle Kirkwood all bring the comprehensive training and mentoring of Skip Barber Racing School to the intense pressure of starting one of the world’s most watched, most prestigious motor races.
