2015 Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout Set to Take Place at Historic NOLA Motorsports Park

  Braselton, Ga. (Feb. 10, 2015) - Karters will head south on October 26-28, 2015 to NOLA Motorsports Park for the 2015 Skip Barber Racing School Karts To Cars Scholarship Shootout. The annual event will gather up to 40 of the world's best karters to compete for scholarship prizes later this year. In the 19th iteration of the Karts to Cars Shootout, Skip Barber Racing School will be reaching out to more karting organizations than ever to ensure that the event will field the best karters in the world for the event. Additionally, the event will open up enrollment by allowing all karters over 12 years of age to compete. This unique event will allow the karters to grow as racers and prepare for the next step in open-wheel racing. The awards for this year’s competition are as follows:
  • 1st Place: Full Season in the 2015 – 2016 Skip Barber Winter OR Summer Race Series
  • 2nd Place: $15,000 Skip Barber Race Series Scholarship
  • 3rd Place: $10,000 Skip Barber Race Series Scholarship
Last year's champion, Daniel de la Calle, won the competition at Sebring International Raceway. De la Calle won a total prize package worth $45,200 to enter the 2015 Summer Series. In addition to the award, he was also the recipient of Racer Magazine’s “Top Gun Award” and was featured in an issue of the coveted publication. Luke Gabin, the 2013 Karts to Cars Scholarship winner proceeded to also win the Skip Barber Championship Shootout. That win awarded Gabin a $200,000 scholarship from Mazda Motorsports to move into USF2000. Karts to Cars Shootout Requirements:Minimum eligibility:
  1. Current outdoor karting experience
  2. One Skip Barber 3 Day Racing School
These experiences must be completed prior to the days prior to participation in the Shootout.Maximum eligibility: 1. No professional racing experience 2. Maximum of 2 Race Weekends in the Skip Barber Race Series 3. Participants must be at least 13 years old 4. Maximum of 12 advanced activity days from the 2014 to 2015 Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout The Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout is the largest and single most important event for karters transitioning into race cars. Past winners of Shootout awards include A.J. Allmendinger, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Ricky Taylor, Jonathan Goring, and Joel Miller. Scholarships are courtesy of Skip Barber Racing School and MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development. The Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout is a critical component of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development ladder–a fully integrated motorsports ladder comprised of the Skip Barber Racing School Summer and Winter Series, USF2000, Pro Mazda & Indy Lights.
