Sergio Perez had a strong second-place finish in the Formula 1 season opener race at Bahrain. Perez started the race from the second grid box but fell back to third on the start. He regained second place on Lap 26 but wasn’t able to make a bid for the race win. Checo assisted his Red Bull Racing team in securing a 1-2 team finish. On his way to racing in Formula 1, Perez competed in the Skip Barber Race Series in 2004. In the IndyCar season opener race at St. Petersburg, Alexander Rossi was the highest finishing Skip Barber grad, claiming a fourth-place finish. Rossi started twelfth in his first start in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, after competing for Andretti Autosport for the previous seven seasons. Rossi visited Skip Barber Racing School in 2006 where he won the Karting Scholarship to compete in the Skip Barber Race Series in 2007. In USF Pro 2000, Skip Barber graduates swept the race weekend. Christian Brooks, competing for Turn 3 Motorsports, took the first race victory at St. Petersburg. Brooks completed a 3-Day Skip Barber Racing School and competed in the Skip Barber Karting Shootout in 2013. In the second race of the weekend, Pabst Racing with Force Indy’s Myles Rowe claimed the victory in his first weekend moving up to USF Pro 2000. Rowe completed a 3-Day Skip Barber Racing School in 2016 and returned in 2021 for a 2-Day Advanced Racing School. A pair of Skip Barber alum swept the weekend in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup. 2016 Skip Barber MX-5 Cup competitor Gresham Wagner won the first race of the weekend in a wild last lap battle with fellow Skip Barber grad Conor Zilisch. Completing a Skip Barber grad podium sweep for Race 1 was Sam Paley in the third-place position. Paley completed a 3-Day Racing School in 2015 and competed in two Skip Barber MX-5 Cup races in 2016. Zilisch, who completed a 3-Day Skip Barber Racing School in 2021, was able to get redemption by winning the second race of the weekend. Two Skip Barber alum finished inside the Top 5 in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In an overtime finish, Alex Bowman finished third, assisting in a Hendrick Motorsports 1-2-3 finish. Bowman completed a 3-Day Skip Barber Racing School in 2005. Bubba Wallace picked up his first Top-5 finish of the season as he finished fourth. In addition, Wallace was the highest finishing Toyota driver behind the wheel of the No. 23 23XI Racing Camry. Wallace visited Skip Barber Racing School at Circuit of the Americas to brush up on his road course racing skills. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, three Skip Barber alum finished inside the Top 5. Austin Hill claimed his second Xfinity Series victory of the season after taking the lead inside the final 2 laps. Xfinity Series rookie Chandler Smith continues to show impressive improvement as he finished third in only his fourth Xfinity Series start. Smith also led the most laps throughout the race, with 118 laps led. Competing in all of NASCAR’s premier series races this past weekend, Kyle Busch finished fourth in his first race behind the wheel of the No. 10 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet. Hill, Smith, and Busch all visited Skip Barber Racing School for advanced coaching at Circuit of the Americas. Skip Barber alum finished 1-2 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch dominated the race after leading a race high of 84 laps and taking the victory behind the wheel of his No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Chevrolet. Coming off of his victory at Daytona, Zane Smith wheeled the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford to a runner-up finish, crossing the line just under 5 seconds behind Busch.
