Skip Barber Racing School is proud to announce that last year’s Skip Barber Formula Race Series Masters Champion, Bob Perlmutter, will return to defend his title as he will compete full-time in 2023. The 65-year-old California native is entering his third season of competing in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series and holds an emotional connection to starting his racing career later in life. “My dad took me to a race at Mid-America Raceway in Wentzville, Missouri, with Mario Andretti as a kid, and he always talked about cutting the apex; when my dad passed away in 2013, I decided it was time to get my racing license and fulfill my lifelong fantasy of being a racer,” Perlmutter said. “I aspire to be like Paul Newman – winning a race at the age of 82!” Perlmutter claimed victories at Watkins Glen International and New Jersey Motorsports Park last year on his way to winning the championship over fellow Masters drivers Quentin Wahl and Edgar White. The series veteran credits the Skip Barber Instructors for helping him improve as a racer. “I chose Skip Barber Race Series because of the updated Formula cars, the amazing track selections, and the feedback sessions with the instructors after every session,” said Perlmutter. “Being able to go back and watch the video after every run and go over data with instructors is extremely helpful in improving throughout a weekend.” Perlmutter’s plan for 2023 is to win a back-to-back Masters class championship and continue to build on his racing skills. The defending champion is most looking forward to visiting WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, a new track to the Formula Race Series schedule. It will be the first time the new Skip Barber Formula cars compete on the 11-turn road course. When he’s not behind the wheel of the Skip Barber Formula car, you can find him ocean swimming or playing pickleball with his wife, Rachel. For racers above 35 years old, we invite you to compete in our Skip Barber Formula Race Series Masters class.
