At its heart, racing is often a family affair—and nowhere is that spirit more alive than in the garages and paddocks of grassroots motorsport. But as you rise through the ranks, family-run teams become fewer and farther between—especially those that entrust the wheel to another racing family. Enter Skip Barber Racing and the Garcia brothers, Alex and Michael, who are proving that blood ties and racing ambition make for a powerful combination. Based out of Orlando, Florida, Alex Garcia first took notice when fellow Floridian Celso Neto started making waves with Skip Barber Racing. That spark quickly turned into a full-blown drive. By the start of the 2024 season, Alex was suiting up for a double-duty campaign in TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School and Toyota GR Cup North America. After joining the Skip Barber Driver Development Program—a launchpad that helped shape stars like Sebastian and Oliver Wheldon—Alex made his Formula 4 debut in the Skip Barber Race Series. Within just one season, he’d piloted everything from open-wheelers to sedans. By the end of the year, he was Rookie of the Year and runner-up in the TC America championship. “It wasn’t just about the results,” Alex reflected. “It was about stepping into the same shoes as some of the sport’s best. It confirmed I was on the right path.” Fast forward to 2025, and the next chapter was already underway. Alex teamed up with his brother Michael to tackle a full-season GT4 America campaign, co-driving the No. 07 PolePace Aston Martin Vantage GT4. The result? A statement win in the season opener at Sonoma Raceway. “To kick things off with a win—it was huge,” said Michael. “It showed the grit of our team and how much work we’ve put in. The mission now? Stay consistent and keep fighting for wins every weekend until we’re crowned champions.” While they may share a garage, the Garcia brothers are carving individual paths, too. Michael made the leap into TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School, while Alex continued his assault on the Toyota GR Cup North America. Both credit the Skip Barber Racing environment for their rapid growth. “The coaches, the crew, the drivers—everyone wants to win, but they also want you to improve,” Michael explained. “It’s competitive but supportive, and that balance really lets you thrive.” Michael’s already grabbed a podium in TC America, while Alex remains laser-focused on development and consistency. Both are hungry for more. “I want to keep pushing—on and off track,” Alex said. “More podiums, stronger connections with the team, and representing Skip Barber at the highest level. The goal is to keep climbing, and I’m excited to see just how far we can go together.”
