Skip Barber Racing School graduates John Hunter Nemechek and Chris Buescher were the stars of the weekend – and even for portions of Monday thanks to mother nature – as they swept the NASCAR weekend from Michigan International Speedway. Elsewhere, Skip Barber graduates collected a win in the NTT IndyCar Series, multiple podiums in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and a heat race victory in the Camping World SRX Series. The festivities started with Nemechek securing his fifth victory of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season. Buescher then followed it up by clinching his second win in as many weeks as his RFK Racing Ford Mustang has found new form late in the summer. Buescher led a race-high 52 laps in the rain-delayed Firekeepers Casino 400. Nemechek, meanwhile, moved into the lead of the Xfinity Series points standings, placing him in an ideal position to find success in the looming playoffs. Ross Chastain’s seventh-place finish stood as the best of the rest among the contingency of Skip Barber graduates in the NASCAR Cup Series. Joey Logano was 14th while Bubba Wallace was 18th after leading 21 laps over the course of the two-day event. In the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Skip Barber Racing School graduates collected four podiums across three different classes in the race from Road America, headlined by a class victory for Bryan Sellers and podium results from Ricky and Jordan Taylor. It was a dominating day for Sellers, a graduate of the Skip Barber National Championship. He and co-driver Madison Snow led 63 of the race’s 72 laps in the GT Daytona class. Their triumph on Sunday was their fourth win of the year and it extended their championship lead to 205 points. Elsewhere in the multiclass race, Ricky Taylor and his brother Jordan Taylor both added podium finishes to their seasons. Ricky finished third alongside his co-driver Filipe Albuquerque in the Wayne Taylor Racing Acura. In GT Daytona Pro, Jordan Taylor and co-driver Antonio Garcia ended their day in third in the fan-favorite Corvette C8.R. Skip Barber graduate Colin Braun in the Meyer Shank Racing Acura was second overall with his co-driver Tom Blomqvist. Head east from Wisconsin’s Road America and across Lake Michigan to find Berlin Raceway where SRX began the second half of its season. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Ryan Newman had another successful evening, collecting a win in Heat 2 and top-five finishes in Heat 1 and the Main Event, furthering his lead in the championship. Skip Barber alumni swept the top-three spots in Heat 2, led by the aforementioned Newman with Ken Schrader (2nd) and Hailie Deegan (3rd) in the heat. Kyle Kirkwood's win in the NTT IndyCar Series from the streets of Nashville gave Skip Barber graduates another trophy. Kirkwood led a race-high 34 laps en route to his second victory of the season. With his first win coming at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, and a top ten in Detroit, Kirkwood is making himself out to be a street course connoisseur. Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden scored a fourth-place finish and HelioCastroneves found his season-best result of 11th in his Meyer Shank Racing Honda. A special congratulations is also in order to Kirkwood’s Andretti Autosport team. The Skip Barber Racing School is the official racing school of Andretti Autosport and Skip Barber is responsible for training and guiding Andretti Autosport junior driver Sebastian Wheldon. Looking ahead to next weekend, the NTT IndyCar Series will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a second trip around the 2.4-mile road course. They will share the track with the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series who will also be at the famed speedway. As always, the Skip Barber Racing School will support the operational program of the Camping World SRX Series and move the series to the dirt of Eldora Speedway for the penultimate race of the season. The Skip Barber Race Series will return to action at Road America where the field will look to chase down championship leader Jaxon Bell. Among those in the championship hunt is Sebastian Wheldon who took his first win in a race car at the VIRginia International Raceway. Second in the championship standings is Jeshua Alianell who is 12 points behind Bell while the aforementioned Wheldon is third. Karting star Caleb Gafrarar and Spencer Schmidt, son of IndyCar team owner Sam Schmidt, round out the top five.
