This past weekend, Skip Barber Racing School graduates won races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and USF 2000, scored a podium in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, and guided a team to its first non-superspeedway top ten finish in the NASCAR Cup Series. Beginning in Darlington, where the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Skip Barber Racing School graduate Ross Chastain took the first win of the weekend in the Buckle Up South Carolina 200. Chastain led just three laps, but crucially, they were the final three as he launched away from the field on a late-race restart. Later in the weekend, graduate Austin Hill finished second in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race while Josh Berry was the highest-finishing alumni in the NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday afternoon. Graduates Bubba Wallace (7th), Alex Bowman (8th), Justin Haley (9th), and Michael McDowell (10th) also finished in the top ten. Haley’s effort gave Rick Ware Racing the team’s first top-ten finish outside of a superspeedway. Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, the NTT IndyCar Series kicked off its month of May festivities with the Sonsio Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. Skip Barber Racing School alumni Colton Herta (7th) led a trio of graduates who finished in the top ten, just ahead of Alexander Rossi (8th) and Graham Rahal (9th). In USF 2000, alumni Max Taylor left the Brickyard with his first USF 2000 win and a second-place finish. Fellow Skip Barber Racing School graduate Brady Golan passed a total of 20 cars across the two races to score one top-ten finish on the weekend. Lastly, alumni Hudson Schwartz finished sixth in Race 2. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Myles Rowe nabbed a pair of top-ten finishes with a fifth and seventh in Races 1 and 2, respectively. Skip Barber Race Series instructor Michael d’Orlando was sixth in Race 2. Lastly, the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship continued its West Coast adventure with a visit to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Robby Foley was second in GT Daytona ahead of Kyle Marcelli (6th) and Spencer Pumpelly (6th). Next weekend, Formula 1 and Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez return to action from Imola. NASCAR ventures to North Wilkesboro Speedway where the Cup Series will host its annual All-Star Race alongside the Wright Brand 250 for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The NTT IndyCar Series switches from the road course to the oval with a full slate of practice sessions this week ahead of qualifying for the 108th running of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday and Sunday.
