Skip Barber Racing School graduate Ross Chastain won the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race from Charlotte Motor Speedway as part of a somber Memorial Day weekend following the tragic loss of Kyle Busch. In addition to his pair of NASCAR Cup Series championships, Busch is the winningest driver in the history of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series. He also holds the record for the most victories across all three of NASCAR’s touring series, with 234 all-time wins Everyone at Skip Barber wishes the best for the Busch family. Behind Chastain was fellow Skip Barber graduate Austin Hill, who finished third on Saturday before taking the extra weight of strapping into Busch’s car. The No. 8 was renumbered as the No. 33, with the No. 8 being reserved by Richard Childress Racing for Kyle’s son, Brexton. Graduate Connor Zilisch finished sixth in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race and third in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Other alumni with strong showings included Christian Eckes (6th), Tanner Gray (8th), and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (9th). The 110th Indianapolis 500 featured several Skip Barber Racing School alumni, with Santino Ferrucci posting the best result of the group with an eighth-place finish. This was Ferrucci’s eighth start in the race, and he extended his streak of top-10 finishes in every appearance. Remarkably, because his average Indy 500 finish is sixth, an eighth-place result is actually below his usual standard.
