One of the biggest motorsports events this weekend will be in Daytona Beach, FL. On Sunday, February 19th, the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway will celebrate its 65th anniversary of the famed stock car race. Professional drivers from different forms of motorsports will come together to compete in this historic event. This year, 22 of the 42 drivers attempting to qualify for the Great American Race, the Daytona 500, are Skip Barber graduates. The Daytona 500 field consists of forty cars, with thirty-six spots reserved for drivers of teams that own charters. Four spots are available to open cars who can race their way into the big race through the Duels, featuring Skip Barber alumni Conor Daly, Zane Smith, Austin Hill, Chandler Smith, and 7-Time Champion Jimmie Johnson, who has already locked his spot into the big race after last night's qualifying. Last night, Skip Barber grad Alex Bowman claimed his third pole position for the Great American Race with a qualifying speed of 181.686 mph. Skip Barber Racing School alumni will represent the company that, for 48 years, has been instrumental in training and supporting the racers of today and the champions of tomorrow. Live television coverage of the 65th Daytona 500 will be shown on FOX television network. Coverage will begin at 2:30 p.m. on February 19.
