Four drivers with significant connections to the Skip Barber Racing School have been chosen as finalists for the 2024-25 IMSA Diverse Driver Development Scholarship. The scholarship, which was won by Skip Barber’s Director of Schools and Race Series Ken Fukuda last year, is awarded to individuals in motorsports who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Among the finalists are Skip Barber Racing driver Celso Neto, Skip Barber Race Series instructor Sabre Cook, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Westin Workman, and Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship winner Andre Castro. Workman, Cook, and Castro were finalists in previous years. Neto is a decorated touring car driver both in his native Brazil and in the United States with Skip Barber Racing where he is in his second year of competition with the team. In 2023, he claimed 11 podium finishes and one win in TCA before moving to the TCX class in 2024 where he has captured three podiums to start the season. “I’m very happy to be selected as one of the very few finalists for this year’s IMSA Diverse Driver Scholarship,” Neto said. “I’m very excited for the opportunity to further my career by learning with industry professionals during the program and hopefully also win the scholarship to participate in an IMSA series in 2025. It’s a great opportunity and I have to thank everyone with the Skip Barber Racing School that supports me on and off track for helping me to get to this point.” In addition to his duties with Skip Barber Racing, Neto competes in a variety of touring car series in Brazil and finished seventh in his NASCAR Brasil Series debut in 2023. When not competing in Porsche Carrera Cup North America, Sabre Cook works with the Skip Barber Racing School as an instructor for a variety of programs including the Skip Barber Driving Academy and Skip Barber Race Series. Andre Castro, meanwhile, made the leap from karts to cars through the Skip Barber Racing School’s Karts to Cars Scholarship, an award previously used by AJ Allmendinger, Ryan Hunter-Reay, and Sage Karam to jumpstart their careers in racing. Lastly, current Toyota GR Cup North America championship-contender Westin Workman trained at a Three-Day Racing School with Skip Barber when he was beginning his motorsports journey.
