Las Vegas native and Skip Barber alumnus Kyle Busch rolled the dice and won his 62nd NASCAR Cup Series victory at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. Busch led just three laps, including the most important one, the last. "We got to gamble," Busch, 37, told his crew while contemplating whether to pit for fuel or stay out for the final overtime restart. Busch and fellow SBRS grad Bubba Wallace exchanged the lead during the race's final two laps, but Ryan Blaney tagged Wallace's No. 23 Toyota in the No. 12 Penske Racing Ford as those two battled for the lead just after the white flag. Wallace took responsibility for the crash. "So that was our best, by far, plate race that we've ever done, so hat's off to the No. 23 group, Freddie, on top of the roof. Just a great day for us, just a crap result, so…hate it. Eight cautions, including two-stage breaks, slowed the race. There were 21 different race leaders and 57 lead changes. Christopher Bell maintains the NASCAR Cup Series championship lead by 11 points over Skip Barber graduate Ross Chastain as the series moves to Dover next week. "Man, I'm pumped up and out of breath from yelling," Burton said, grinning. "These guys have made racing fun for me again." His No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing Chevrolet led 20 of the race's 121 laps on the afternoon, won the second stage, and held off Sheldon Creed by just 0.113 seconds to earn the team its first-ever win for Jordan Anderson Racing and the first in the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. The victory was the second for the South Boston, Virginia native at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway. Burton is the son of Skip Barber, graduate, and 2002 Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton. Jeb's uncle Jeff Burton and cousin, Harrison, are also graduates. SBRS graduate and Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Hill claimed the pole position at 182.459 mph in 52.483 seconds. Hill retook the NASCAR Xfinity Series points lead over fellow Skip Barber classmate John Hunter Nemechek, who finished 32nd. Skip Barber graduate Parker Kligerman finished 3rd in his number 48 Big Machine Racing Chevrolet. When he is not behind the wheel, Kligerman serves as a NASCAR analyst for NBC Sports. There were ten caution, two red flags, and two stage breaks over the course of the race that took over 3 hours to complete.
