Skip Barber Racing School alumni Kyle Kirkwood won the Freedom 250 NTT IndyCar Series race around the streets of Washington D.C. and under the shadow of the U.S. Capitol building. This win is Kirkwood's sixth victory on a street course and the seventh win of his IndyCar career, further cementing his place as the series' premier street course driver.
Kirkwood led 87% of the race's 147 laps after starting on the front row. Fellow Skip Barber alumni Graham Rahal was the only other driver on the grid to lead more than 10 laps. Graduate Josef Newgarden (8th) also finished in the top ten.
On the other side of Virginia, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship was at VIRginia International Raceway for the IMSA Michelin GT Challenge. There, graduate Connor De Phillippi finished fifth in GT Daytona Pro while Patrick Gallagher and Robby Foley combined to finish second in GT Daytona.
Skip Barber alumni found even more success in the various support series as Westin Workman swept the weekend in IMSA VP SportsCar Challenge, Sean Quinlan captured the overall victory in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Justin Adakonis earned a win in Mazda MX-5 Cup, and Will Lucas capped off his Mustang Challenge weekend with a victory in Race 2.
Dillon Machavern (3rd) and the pairing of Jaxon Bell and Ford Koch (4th) also finished in the top-five in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race. Alumni Courtney Crone netted a pair of podium finishes in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, and John Salerno finished eighth in an extremely competitive Mazda MX-5 Cup field.
Finally, the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series were in New Hampshire where Bubba Wallace (2nd) was the best-finishing alumni, leading Josh Berry (3rd) and Noah Gragson (4th) in Sunday's race. Chandler Smith (2nd) and Connor Zilisch (5th) had strong runs in Saturday's Truck Series race; Zilisch also won both stages. Graduate Tristan McKee finished sixth; the 16-year-old now has two top-ten finishes in his first two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races.
