More than 45% of the 2015 Indy 500 Field are Skip Barber Racing School Trained

BRASELTON, Ga. (May 21, 2015) – Skip Barber Racing School's tradition of training the very best in motorsports continues this weekend at the 99th Indianapolis 500. More than 45% of the field - 15 of the 33 competitors - in the event this weekend are graduates of Skip Barber Racing School. In the illustrious field is Skip Barber Racing School Karts to Cars Scholarship winner and 1999 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay who looks to defend his Indy 500 win from last year. Other notable alumni include Indianapolis 500 rookie Gabby Chavez who will be racing for Bryan Herta Autosport co-owned by alumnus Bryan Herta. Herta began his racing career in 1990 in the Skip Barber Racing School Pro Series. After winning the Barber Saab Pro Series and Indy Lights Championship in 1993, Herta moved on to compete full time in IndyCar. Herta’s success as a driver has made him one of the most recognizable names in motorsports. As the Gateway to Motorsports, Skip Barber Racing School is also excited to announce Herta's increased involvement with current racers in the Skip Barber Racing School system including providing scholarships for the most well-rounded driver in the Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout. Announced last year, the new scholarship entitled the “Bryan Herta Career Enhancement Scholarship” is an annual award that will reward a talented racer in the shootout $15,000 in credit towards the Skip Barber Racing Series. Last year, Herta awarded up-and-coming racer Dakota Dickerson a $15,000 scholarship after he placed 2nd in the Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout.
