One day after his native Brazil celebrated its Independence Day, Skip Barber Racing’s Celso Neto held the Green and Yellow atop the TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School podium at Barber Motorsports Park. Meanwhile, James Klimas secured his season-best finish in Toyota GR Cup North America, capping off another outstanding weekend for Skip Barber Racing. With Neto’s win on Sunday, the Brazilian has now won four of the last six races with his No. 22 Skip Barber Racing School Acura Integra Type S having scored more points than any other competitor in the last seven races of the season. Astoundingly, Neto has not finished off the TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School podium since May. The second-half hot streak is a testament to the work Neto, his teammate Cooper Broll, Skip Barber Racing, and Honda Racing Corporation have put into developing the Acura Integra Type S. Broll’s No. 19 PiedParker Acura Integra Type S has also benefitted from the second-half surge the team has experienced. Since breaking through for his first career podium finish at VIRginia International Raceway, Broll has gone on to add three more, including one this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. The Californian was just feet away from another potential podium but contact in the race’s waning minutes ended Broll’s charge. Despite this, Broll moved to third in the TCX Driver’s Championship. When it came to making moves, no one could best Alex Garcia who secured the Hard Charger Award in Toyota GR Cup North America after passing eight drivers en route to an 11th-place finish. That was Garcia’s second such award after passing the most cars in Race 1 of the TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School weekend. The No. 14 Orlando Family Medical Toyota GR86 Cup Car finished both races in the top fifteen and Garcia gained spots in both events. Later this week, Garcia will expand his Skip Barber Racing Driver Development program with a two-day test at Sebring International Raceway in the team’s Aston Martin Vantage GT4. It will be the Floridian’s GT4 debut. If not for his Skip Barber Racing teammate, Toyota GR Cup Series rookie James Klimas would’ve had a Hard Charger Award to add to his collection. The Connecticut-based driver passed seven cars and earned his career-best finish in the No. 61 Middletown Toyota GR86 Cup Car. Over the course of the weekend, Klimas improved a total of ten spots, an exceptional showing that sets him up for a strong return to Indianapolis, where he made his debut last season. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway weekend is all that remains on the horizon for Skip Barber Racing’s SRO America program. The team is on the cusp of clinching second place in the TCX Team’s Championship, a stellar outcome for the team, and the car’s debut season.
