Skip Barber Racing School graduates claimed a victory in the opening round of the NTT IndyCar Series and continued their streak of wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series as Josef Newgarden dominated on the streets of St. Petersburg and Chandler Smith won at Phoenix Raceway. Newgarden led 92 of 100 laps after starting the race from pole position. He crossed the finish line over seven seconds ahead of the next competitor, capping off a stellar weekend from the reigning Indianapolis 500 winner. Fellow Skip Barber Racing School graduates Colton Herta (5th) and Alexander Rossi (8th) also finished in the top ten. Meanwhile, at Phoenix Raceway the more than one dozen Skip Barber Racing School graduates in the NASCAR Xfinity Series kept alive their streak of winning every race of the season thus far. After Austin Hill’s triumphs at Daytona and Atlanta and John Hunter Nemechek’s win in Las Vegas, it was Chandler Smith’s turn as he led 88 laps on his way to victory. In Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Chris Buescher finished second ahead of fellow alumni Ross Chastain (6th), Michael McDowell (8th), Tyler Reddick (10th), Noah Gragson (12th), and Carson Hocevar (15th). Finally, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez finished the STC Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in second place and is currently running second in the points behind teammate Max Verstappen. Looking ahead to next week, the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will venture to the last great coliseum of Bristol Motor Speedway while the NASCAR Xfinity Series takes a week off before heading to Circuit of the Americas the following weekend.
