Thursday, April 03, 2008 In yet another sad, desperate bid for attention, Race Control stalwart Nick Nicholson has, very likely, ‘‘jumped the shark,’’ as they say in TV Land. Egged on by an outlandish bidder during the Auction to Benefit the Mechanics’ Fund at the Skip Barber Southern Series season-ending banquet, the groveling Nick said ‘‘oui’’ to the ‘‘challenge’’ of wearing a goofy beer hard-hat -- 'foam dome' to you beer-drinking professionals -- for a week. That’s seven days. What the outlandish bidder did not know was that Nick had already planned to the wear the goofy beer hard-hat for one month (that’s 30 days) anyway. All on his own. Just for grins. Because he had a vision. And because he’s… he’s… well, because he’s Nick. So, in reality, the outlandish bidder actually got him ‘‘off the hook,’’ to coin a phrase.
