A pair of Skip Barber Racing School graduates won their class at the Rolex 24 at Daytona including Josef Newgarden who joined an elite group to have won the Indianapolis 500 and the Rolex 24 at Daytona. In addition to Newgarden, who claimed the overall victory in the #7 Penske Motorsports Porsche 963, 17-year-old Connor Zilisch won the LMP2 class with Era Motorsport. Zilisch’s 2024 racing season has gotten off to a roaring start with this Rolex win following his signing as a development driver with Trackhouse Racing. Graduates Jordan Taylor and Colton Herta rounded out the overall podium with a third-place finish in their #40 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06. Herta, in his prototype racing debut, spent nearly eight hours in the car, more than Taylor and his Formula 1 World Champion teammate Jenson Button did combined. Just behind Zilisch was fellow Skip Barber Racing School graduate Colin Braun who finished second in LMP2 with Crowdstrike Racing by APR. Also scoring a podium was the #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 in GT Daytona Pro. The #1 BMW entered this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona carrying three Skip Barber Racing School graduates: Madison Snow, Bryan Sellers, and Neil Verhagen. This is Snow’s sixth Rolex 24 podium and Sellers’ fourth. For Verhagen, it’s a podium on debut in the famed race. In GT Daytona, Kenton Koch and Mike Skeen in the #2 Korthoff/Preston Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 finished fifth in the largest class of the race. Looking ahead to next week, the NASCAR Cup Series kicks off its 2024 season with the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum.
