Sergio Perez, the driver of the number 11 Red Bull RB19, had another great weekend in Baku. The Skip Barber National Championship competitor won the sprint race on Saturday and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday. On Saturday, Perez started second alongside Leclerc but couldn’t jump the Ferrari off the line. But the Ferrari was no match for the Bull. On lap 8, Perez breezed past, his rear wing wide open, galloping to a convincing victory by 4.463 seconds. “To get away with maximum points today was the main objective, but obviously, we know that tomorrow is the main race,” Perez said. “I think there was good learning today.” Checo dominated the Azerbaijan GP on Sunday as he and his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen captured a one-two finish. Checo started P3 behind polesitter Charles Le Clerc and teammate Max Verstappen. The Dutchman overtook LeClerc for the lead in four laps, with Checo close behind. The Mexican ripped off a series of fastest laps to close to within a second of his leading teammate and set up a duel for the lead. Perez took advantage of a conveniently timed safety car to pit to take the lead. The two Bulls traded fastest laps, but Checo grew his lead to more than three seconds in the final ten laps. Perez cruised towards his second victory of the year and cut his title deficit down to six points. Along the way, he racked up some awe-inspiring statistics:
- Perez is the first driver to win in Azerbaijan more than once.
- Perez’s fifth Baku podium maintains his record for the most by any driver here.
- Perez’s last five wins have all come on street or temporary circuits.

Andretti Autosport put Romain Grosjean on the pole for Sunday’s Children’s of Alabama Indy GP and Barber Motorsports Park. The Frenchman led most of the race with his two-stop plan but was overtaken by the three-stopping Scott McLaughlin late in the race and finished second. “It hurts,” Grosjean admitted. “The three-stop never wins in Barber (except) today. We had an incredible car, drove really well, gave it 100 percent, but we got unlucky with that yellow. I gave it all. Congrats to Scott. He deserves to win. We got good points.
