With so much experience and expertise running equal-car racing championships - more than 30 years - and thanks to the recent partnership with Mazda, it was a natural for Skip Barber Racing to respond to drivers' requests to create and run a championship using Mazda's highly regarded sports car, the MX-5 Miata. Thus, the new-for-2008 Skip Barber Mazda MX-5 Race Series. Hundreds of drivers will take part in exciting, fun and hassle-free sports car racing at dozens of North America's finest race tracks. The Skip Barber MX-5 Cup Series is specifically designed to be financially and geographically accessible. The start of the inaugural 10-race season is just around the corner: April 4-6, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Rounds three and four are at Virginia International Raceway May 2-4, followed by rounds five and six, back at Laguna June 6-8. Then the series travels to Road Atlanta, the latest Skip Barber base location, for rounds seven and eight, July 11-13. The season finale will be at another Skip Barber base, world-famous Road America, September 26-28.

Each Mazda MX-5 Cup car is built by the Skip Barber team, with specifications closely matched to the Miatas used in the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. Skip Barber professionals conduct all the testing and equalization. The majority of drivers in the Race Series are just like you; people between 15 and 65 years old, who love motorsport and have found a tremendously fun, worry-free way to race, as a hobby or avocation. The mix of equal cars, the arrive-and-drive format (we bring everything, from the cars to the racing suits) and the fantastic camaraderie between all the competitors bring many drivers back year after year. You can do just one Race Weekend - or as many as you like! There are eligibility requirements, but if you are a graduate of the Skip Barber Three Day Racing School (formula car or MX-5 Cup) or another recognized competition course, you are only a few "Advanced Activities" away from taking your first green flag!
