The 2026 Skip Barber Race Series opened with a pair of races from Sebring International Raceway that saw Jaylan Battley sweep the weekend under the hot Florida sun, a trio of rookies join him on the podium, and a Master's Class driver challenge for the overall win. Plus, this weekend’s action was run as a support series to SRO America’s Mother’s Day weekend at Sebring. This allowed the Race Series' formula car drivers an inside look at Skip Barber Racing's touring car operation and to enjoy access to a professional motorsports paddock as part of their driver training and development. Battley opened the weekend's festivities with a 2:20.253s lap time in Practice 1 with top sim-racer Aaron Vazquez laying down a time of 2:20.890s. With cooler temperatures in Practice 2 the following morning, lap times quickly fell. Master's Class driver Matt Ales shaved two seconds off his quickest time between the two practice sessions. Come qualifying, that pace improvement continued with Ales slicing another three-tenths of a second to put himself on the front row, alongside pole sitter Battley. Vazquez and Charles Gillespie completed the second row of the grid with Gillespie's qualifying time nearly one-and-a-half seconds faster than his Practice 1 time. Perhaps the most remarkable story to emerge from Race 1 was the performance of Thaden Van Wong. After a difficult qualifying session on Saturday evening, the young Canadian arrived at the track on Sunday morning with a fresh mindset. At the drop of the green flag, he quickly set to work, moving up one position before reeling in Mark Jennes and making the pass into Turn 1. As Van Wong climbed the order, Battley and Ales were engaged in a back-and-forth fight for control of the lead. Ales tucked under behind Battley and made several attempts to pass Battley into the track's two heavy braking zones of Turns 7 and 10, but Battley was able to defend on each attempt. As Ales and Battley squabbled, Aaron Vazquez had the best seat in the house. The 18-year-old Spaniard, who won the Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series to earn his spot in this season, settled for a pair of third-place overall finishes, but second in-class. Ian Osuna rounded out the podium for Race 1. Osuna started fifth and gained one spot in the 25-minute race, netting him a class podium in his debut race. Mark Jennes, meanwhile, was the top storyline to emerge from Race 2. After starting at the tail of the field, he gained four positions, earned the Hard Charger Award, and claimed his first Skip Barber Race Series podium. Shureed Kabir, who gained a pair of spots in Race 2, joined Jennes in the top-five.
