In the past two weeks, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez concluded his 2023 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season with his career-best finish in the F1 World Drivers’ Championship, and graduate Colin Braun kicked off the 2023-24 Asian Le Mans Series with a victory in Malaysia. Perez, a graduate of the Skip Barber National Championship, scored two wins in the Formula 1 season in Baku and Saudi Arabia. His average finish was just inside the top five. Since entering Formula 1 in 2011 with Sauber, Perez has steadily progressed up the grid, bettering his position in the World Drivers’ Championship each of the last three years. In Malaysia, the Asian Le Mans Series began its 2023-24 season with a pair of races at the Sepang International Circuit. In Race 2, Braun was among the fastest drivers in LMP2. The American assumed control of the Crowdstrike Racing by APR ORECA in sixth and by the end of his first stint had moved the car into the overall lead of the race, paving the way for an easy final stint for his codriver. Other Skip Barber Racing School graduates including Jordan Taylor have been busy with off-season testing duties as they prepare for new roles in the upcoming season. Taylor was testing with Wayne Taylor with Andretti Autosport at Sebring. Taylor will be joined by fellow Skip Barber Racing School graduate Colton Herta for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Meanwhile, Ross Chastain and Justin Marks completed training with the Skip Barber Racing School at Road Atlanta. Chastain has been working with Skip Barber Racing School instructors on his road course prowess since 2021 and credits much of his improvement in the discipline to the advice and guidance of the instructors.
