Skip Barber Racing School graduates dominated the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto with a statement performance spearheaded by Colton Herta and Kyle Kirkwood. The Andretti Autosport duo locked out the top two spots in qualifying and stayed out front on Sunday with Herta leading 81 of the race’s 85 laps. Kirkwood was just 0.346 seconds behind Herta as they crossed the line to cap off a stellar weekend that saw Herta leapfrog two positions in the NTT IndyCar Series standings. Alumni Graham Rahal finished 10th for his fourth top ten of the season. In Indianapolis, the NASCAR Cup Series returned to the 2.5-mile oval for the Brickyard 400 where five Skip Barber Racing School graduates finished inside the top ten, headlined by a second-place result from Tyler Reddick and a season-best finish of sixth for alumni Todd Gilliland. Graduates Bubba Wallace (5th), Austin Cindric (7th), and Noah Gragson (9th) also finished in the top ten. Alumni Austin Hill (6th) and AJ Allmendinger (8th) finished in the top ten of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Across town, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series was spending its Friday evening at the 0.686-mile short track of Indianapolis Raceway Park where alumni Christian Eckes finished second and led a race-high 73 laps. The full complement of SRO America series’ were in action at VIRginia International Raceway where Skip Barber Racing collected three wins and six podiums across the pair of races in TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School. Among the standout performances were Cooper Broll’s maiden podium, Celso Neto guiding the Acura Integra Type S to its first win of the season, and Alex Garcia sweeping the weekend in TCA. Graduate Bryan Sellers was third in class in Race 2 of the GT World Challenge America weekend. In Toyota GR Cup North America, graduates Jaxon Bell and Westin Workman collected a podium finish apiece with Workman’s second-place finish in Race 2 following a top five finish in Race 1. Alumni Mia Lovell finished eighth in Race 2. In Formula 1, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez finished the Hungarian Grand Prix in seventh. Next weekend, Formula 1 will head to Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix. Lastly, the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge take on Road America the following weekend. NASCAR and the NTT IndyCar Series both begin their summer breaks following this past weekend’s action.
