Skip Barber Alumni claimed 5 podium finishes across the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series races this past weekend at Daytona International Raceway. In only his second start for his new full-time ride with Team Penske, Austin Cindric took the checkered flag for the Daytona 500. Cindric’s victory in the Great American Race is his first career victory in the NASCAR Cup Series. Cindric started his road racing career with Skip Barber Racing School with a 3-Day Racing School, 2-Day Advanced Racing School, and raced in the Skip Barber Race Series in 2012 and 2013. Fellow Skip Barber alum Bubba Wallace finished runner-up in an extremely close finish with a 0.036 seconds margin of victory, the third closest finish in NASCAR history since the introduction of electronic timing and scoring. To prepare for NASCAR’s first race at Circuit of the Americas, Wallace came to the Skip Barber Racing School to better familiarize himself with the 2.3-mile road course.

In a race that ended with the yellow flag due to an accident on the backstretch, Austin Hill would lead the field at the moment of caution and take his first career win in the Xfinity Series. 2002 Skip Barber Race Series Champion A.J. Allmendinger finished the race in the runner-up spot while recent Skip Barber grad Noah Gragson rounded out the podium. Gragson completed a private coaching day at Circuit of the Americas to polish up on his road racing skills.
