Skip Barber Racing School graduates claimed two victories over the weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Alumni Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and Skip Barber graduate Austin Hill earned his third-consecutive win in Atlanta. Since the track’s reprofiling in the winter of 2021, Hill has won five of the six races held at the track. For Busch, this was his 67th win in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, further solidifying his place as the all-time leader in wins in the series. Fellow Skip Barber alumni Bayley Currey (4th), Chandler Smith (5th), and Jake Garcia (9th) also finished in the top ten in the Craftsman Truck Series race. On Saturday night, Hill dominated the NASCAR Xfinity Series field, leading 146 of the race’s 163 laps, winning Stages 1 and 2, and capping off the evening with his 11th-career win. Also in the top ten were Skip Barber alumni Sammy Smith (4th), Jeb Burton (6th), and Harrison Burton (10th). Meanwhile, on Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series field took to Atlanta’s high banking for 400 miles of racing where a pair of Skip Barber Racing School alumni spearheaded the field for much of the afternoon. Graduates Joey Logano and Josh Berry combined to lead 139 laps, 52% of the total laps in the race, with Berry winning Stage 1. In the end, the highest-finishing Skip Barber Racing School alumni was Carson Hocevar who ended Sunday in second, the best finish of his NASCAR Cup Series career. Behind Hocevar was a plethora of fellow Skip Barber alumni who filled the top fifteen. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (5th), Kyle Busch (7th), Ross Chastain (8th), Bubba Wallace (9th), John Hunter Nemechek (10th), Zane Smith (11th), Joey Logano (12th), Michael McDowell (13th), AJ Allmendinger (14th), and Todd Gilliland (15th) all finished in the top half of Sunday’s 400-mile race. Next weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will visit Circuit of the Americas, the NTT IndyCar Series will begin its 2025 season from the streets of St. Petersburg and the World Endurance Championship’s season will commence from Qatar.
