Alumni of the Skip Barber Racing School swept the IndyCar and Indy NXT season finales at Nashville Superspeedway, with graduates Josef Newgarden and Myles Rowe each capturing a victory. Newgarden’s win extended his streak of consecutive seasons with at least one victory to 11. Meanwhile, Rowe’s triumph—his second of the season—capped off a tremendous sophomore campaign in Indy NXT that included ten top-ten finishes and six podiums. Other Skip Barber alumni who found success at the season finale included Conor Daly, who earned his season-best finish of fifth, and Kyle Kirkwood, who added another top-ten result. With three victories this year, Kirkwood secured his career-best fourth-place finish in the full-season standings. Fellow Skip Barber alumni Santino Ferrucci (8th), Alexander Rossi (10th), and Colton Herta (11th) rounded out the top half of the results in Sunday’s race. In the Pacific Northwest, the NASCAR Xfinity Series was in action at Portland, where alumni Connor Zilisch—still recovering from an injury he sustained in Watkins Glen’s victory lane—captured the win. Zilisch’s summer run has been nothing short of spectacular. Since Memorial Day weekend, his worst finish has been a fifth-place result in Mexico City. He now has six wins (seven if you include the one Parker Kligerman earned on his behalf at Daytona) and three runner-up finishes. In addition to Zilisch, Skip Barber alumni Christian Eckes (4th), Austin Hill (5th), and Jeb Burton (7th) finished in the top ten. Meanwhile, in Darlington, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Cup Series began their playoffs, with Tanner Gray (6th) and Jake Garcia (10th) delivering strong runs in Saturday’s Truck Series race. The NASCAR Cup Series took center stage on Sunday evening for the final crown jewel race of the 2025 season, the Southern 500. By the end of the night, eight of the top-ten spots were filled by Skip Barber Racing School alumni, with Erik Jones (3rd) and John Hunter Nemechek (4th) combining to deliver one of Legacy Motor Club’s best weekends for team owner—and Skip Barber alumni himself—Jimmie Johnson. Other notable finishes came from Tyler Reddick (2nd), AJ Allmendinger (5th), Bubba Wallace (6th), Kyle Busch (8th), Carson Hocevar (9th), and Chris Buescher (10th). Allmendinger’s result marked his second top-five finish of the season, the first coming in the Coca-Cola 600 in May. Finally, Skip Barber alumni Zak Brown saw his McLaren Racing team capture its 12th victory of the season. In 2025, a McLaren has won all, but two races of the season and the team is well on its way to another World Constructor’s Championship. Additionally, Skip Barber Racing School alumni Sergio Perez will return to the Formula 1 grid in 2026. Perez began his post-karting career with Skip Barber.
