Sergio Perez picked up his ninth Top-5 finish this past weekend’s F1 race at Circuit Paul Ricard. Checo was enroute to a podium finish but an issue with the virtual safety car unfortunately ruined his restart and relegated him to fourth position. Perez’s impressive season has him currently placed third in the F1 points standings. When making his transition from karts to cars, Perez competed in the Skip Barber Race Series in 2004. At the conclusion of the 2022 Superstar Racing Experience season, Marco Andretti takes the championship over fellow Skip Barber alum Ryan Newman by only 8 points. In the final race on the dirt of Sharon Speedway, Ryan Hunter-Reay drove to his best finish of the season in the fourth-place spot. Bobby Labonte rounded out the Top-5, proving to be a consistent front runner throughout the 6-week series. Josef Newgarden won the first INDYCAR race of the weekend at Iowa Speedway. The driver of the No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet spent most of the race out in front, leading 208 of 250 laps. At the conclusion of the race weekend, Newgarden sits third in the INDYCAR points standings. In Race 2 of the weekend, Jimmie Johnson fought his way to a career-best fifth-place finish. The 7-Time NASCAR Cup Series Champion has steadily shown improvement behind the wheel of an INDYCAR, now in his second year in the series. Noah Gragson claimed the checkered flag in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Pocono Raceway. Gragson had to hold off the field in a 15-lap dash to the end after a late race caution on his way to his third NASCAR Xfinity Series victory this season. Gragson has visited the Skip Barber Racing School on multiple occasions for Advanced Coaching sessions. Fellow Skip Barber Graduate and Skip Barber Race Series Driver A.J. Allmendinger placed his No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet in the fourth-place position. Three Skip Barber Alumni finished in the Top 5 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Pocono Raceway. Chandler Smith earned his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win of the season. Smith led a dominating 49 of 60 laps in the No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota. Fellow Skip Barber Graduate and Kyle Busch Motorsport Teammate John Hunter Nemechek drove his way to the last step of the podium while Carson Hocevar rounded out the Top 5. Smith, Nemechek, and Hocevar completed the Skip Barber Racing School Advanced Coaching ahead of NASCAR’s debut race weekend at Circuit of the Americas.
