Seven Skip Barber Racing alumni finished in the top 10 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta) on Saturday, headlined by alumni Kyle Busch claiming his 68th victory in the Truck Series. Busch was pushed across the line by fellow graduate Carson Hocevar before the Spire Motorsports teammates celebrated together on the frontstretch. Busch and Hocevar were joined in Saturday’s race by NASCAR Cup Series regulars John Hunter Nemechek (8th) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (9th). Meanwhile, Truck Series stalwarts Chandler Smith (6th), Jake Garcia (7th), and Justin Haley (10th) also finished in the top 10. Later that night, the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series put on a thriller that saw Skip Barber graduate Parker Retzlaff match his career-best finish with another second-place run. Alumni Ross Chastain (6th) and Brandon Jones (10th) also recorded strong finishes. Chastain carried that momentum into Sunday, where he factored heavily into the battle for the win after sunset. Fresh tires gave Chastain the freedom to make several moves through the field, ultimately crossing the finish line in third. Bubba Wallace, who won Stage 2, finished eighth, and Hocevar added another top-10 to his weekend with a fourth-place result. Skip Barber alumni Austin Cindric won Stage 1 before being collected in a late-race crash. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will now split from the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. The Trucks will travel south to join the NTT IndyCar Series paddock for a weekend on the streets of St. Petersburg. The Cup Series and O’Reilly Series will head west for the first road course race of the season at Circuit of the Americas. St. Petersburg will be busy this weekend, with IndyCar, Indy NXT, USF 2000, Mazda MX-5 Cup, and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series set to share the track. Six Skip Barber Racing School alumni will compete in the weekend’s headliner: Alexander Rossi, Josef Newgarden, Santino Ferrucci, Graham Rahal, Sting Ray Robb, and Kyle Kirkwood. Meanwhile, former Skip Barber Race Series competitors Naim Saleh, Thomas Nordquist, Ryan Giannetta, and Jack Mohrhardt will do battle in USF 2000, joined by alumni Colin Aitken. In Mazda MX-5 Cup, graduates Gresham Wagner, Tristan McKee, Justin Adakonis, John Salerno, Will Robinson, Ethan Tyler, and Ryan Leach will compete in a pair of races. While the final entry list for the Truck Series has yet to be released, it is confirmed that alumni Colin Braun will make his first Truck Series start since 2011. The sports car and IMSA ace will take the controls of Kaulig Racing’s Ram Free Agent truck, which features a rotating cast of specialist drivers and fan favorites.
