Skip Barber Racing School alumni Connor Zilisch will fight for a NASCAR Xfinity Series title this weekend in Phoenix having secured his place in the Championship Four with a top-ten finish from Martinsville Speedway. Zilisch’s remarkable rookie season, which included nine wins, now culminates in one final test from Phoenix Raceway. With a fulltime seat in the NASCAR Cup Car Series already secured, a championship on Saturday night will serve only has an exclamation mark on an already record-smashing season for the 19-year-old. Other Skip Barber graduates who found the top-ten from Martinsville included Sammy Smith (2nd), Brandon Jones (3rd), and Jeb Burton (6th) who matched his best non-superspeedway finish of the season with that result. In the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, alumni Tanner Gray (8th) finished in the top ten. In the NASCAR Cup Series, Skip Barber Racing School graduates Ross Chastain (4th), Joey Logano (8th), Josh Berry (10th), and Tyler Reddick (11th) finished near the sharp end of the field. Next, in Mexico City, Skip Barber was in action alongside Andretti-Jourdain and Javier Gonzalez supporting an entry in Super Copa, which was a support race for the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix weekend. Gonzalez, who graduated from the Skip Barber Racing School at the dawn of his career, drove to victory in GTM Lights. Gonzalez wasn’t the only Skip Barber alumni with something to celebrate in Mexico City as Zak Brown saw his McLaren Racing outfit score a thirteenth victory of the season, their first since the Dutch Grand Prix. Brown’s drivers are now separated by just one point atop the World Drivers’ Championship standings.
