Skip Barber Racing School graduate Colin Braun and his teammates in the #4 CrowdStrike Racing by APR were crowned champions of the 2023-24 Asian Le Mans Series this weekend in Abu Dhabi. Braun was part of a trio of drivers who claimed the victory in the first of two races from the Yas Marina Circuit before securing the title with a top-five finish in the season finale. With the title secured, CrowdStrike Racing by APR secures a guaranteed entry into the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans. Throughout the five-race season, Braun and company claimed two wins and an additional two top-five finishes in the 13-car LMP2 field that has seen rapid growth in recent years as European powerhouses flocked to the series chasing the automatic Le Mans invites. In the first race from Yas Marina, Braun inherited control of the team’s ORECA 07 in eighth place and climbed into the top five for his two stints behind the wheel. He set the second-quickest race lap time of any driver and laid down the fastest overall time in the second sector of the technical Yas Marina circuit. Braun’s performance in Race 2 was even more stellar as he climbed aboard the #4 ORECA 07 with the car mired in the back of the LMP2 grid. Over his 36-lap stint in the car, Braun gained 13 positions to strengthen the team’s grasp on the title. Back in the United States, reigning Skip Barber Race Series champion Sebastian Wheldon started his Formula 4 career with a bang, claiming one win and two podiums at Sebring in the YACademy Winter Series. Looking ahead to this weekend, the NASCAR season kicks off with the Daytona 500 on Sunday afternoon, the Xfinity Series’ United Rentals 300 on Saturday, and the NextEra Energy 250 for the Craftsman Truck Series on Friday night. A total of 24 Skip Barber Racing School graduates will enter the Daytona 500 including Ross Chastain, Jimmie Johnson, and Joey Logano. In the Xfinity Series, 12 drivers share Skip Barber Racing School lineage including AJ Allmendinger, Austin Hill, and Brandon Jones. Finally, seven drivers in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will carry the Skip Barber Racing School flag, headlined by series veteran Matt Crafton and playoff contender Christian Eckes.
