For the third consecutive year, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Austin Hill triumphed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series season-opener at the Daytona International Speedway. Hill led the race as the field took the white flag and cruised back around the 2.5-mile circuit after a crash collected much of the pack behind him. Parker Retzlaff netted his career-best finish in the Xfinity Series with a third-place result in the United Rentals 300. Monday night’s top-three finish beats his previous best of fourth place in last year’s season opener. Alumni Chandler Smith rounded out the top five. John Hunter Nemechek was one of three Skip Barber Racing School graduates who competed in the Daytona 500 and the United Rentals 300 on Monday. Nemechek finished both races in seventh, completing a grueling 800 miles of high-pressure racing in one evening. AJ Allmendinger ended his 800-mile marathon with a top ten in both events, headlined by a sixth-place finish in the Daytona 500. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Bubba Wallace earned his third top-five finish in the Daytona 500 and Alex Bowman set a new career-best finish in the race with a second-place result. Forty percent of the drivers in the top ten graduated from a Skip Barber Racing School program with Noah Gragson’s ninth-place finish rounding out the group. In the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Skip Barber Racing School graduates accomplished a similar feat with thirty percent of the top ten in Friday night’s race being Skip Barber alumni, led by Bret Holmes (4th) and rounded out by Matt Crafton (7th) and Christian Eckes (10th). The NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series all head to the Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend. Pre-season testing for the 2024 Formula 1 season begins on Friday with Skip Barber graduate Sergio Perez set for his 14th season in F1.
