A pair of Skip Barber Racing School graduates advanced to the Round of 8 for the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs with alumni Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick in the hunt for the crown. Meanwhile, four Skip Barber Racing School graduates remain in the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs with AJ Allmendinger, Sammy Smith, Chandler Smith, and Austin Hill still in contention for the title. Drivers faced a reconfigured Charlotte ROVAL, with an emphasis placed on tighter corners and prominent braking zones. The aforementioned Reddick claimed the victory in Stage 1, bolstering his playoff position while graduate Alex Bowman captured the Stage 2 victory. Alumni Joey Logano, who was second in Stage 1 and third in Stage 2, ended the day with an eighth-place finish, earning himself his ninth top-ten finish of the season. Fellow Skip Barber graduates Allmendinger (6th), Bubba Wallace (9th), Reddick (11th), Carson Hocevar (12th), Kyle Busch (13th), and Michael McDowell (15th) also ended Sunday with finishes in the top half of the order. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, all four Skip Barber Racing School alumni in the playoffs finished in the top ten with Allmendinger’s second-place result leading the way. Austin Hill was fourth, Chandler Smith was fifth, and Sammy Smith was tenth. The NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will now venture west to Las Vegas Motor Speedway where they’ll begin the three-race Round of 8. Meanwhile, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship closed the curtain on its 2024 season with the 27th running of Petit Le Mans. Skip Barber Racing School alumni Connor Zilisch was third in LMP2 while Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta joined with fellow graduate Jordan Taylor in GTP to earn a seventh-place finish. In Mazda MX-5 Cup, Skip Barber alumni Westin Workman was fourth in Race 1 and seventh in Race 2. Looking ahead, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez and Formula 1 will visit Austin, TX for the United States Grand Prix.
