Skip Barber Racing School graduate and reigning Skip Barber Race Series champion Sebastian Wheldon made an instant statement in the opening round of the USF Juniors season. Wheldon won two of the first three races of the season and claimed a hard-fought podium in the third race. The Andretti Autosport Junior Development driver left NOLA Motorsports Park as the USF Juniors championship leader. Additionally, fellow Skip Barber alumni Jack Jeffers netted himself three top-ten finishes at NOLA with the highlight being a top-five in Race 2. In USF 2000, Skip Barber Racing School graduates amassed six top-ten results including four top-five finishes throughout the weekend. Graduate Max Taylor spearheaded the group with a podium finish in Race 3 and a pair of fifth-place finishes in Races 1 and 2. Series rookie Hudson Schwartz scored a fourth-place finish in Race 2 and added two more top-ten results to cap off an impressive debut weekend in USF 2000. In Sonoma, the SRO America season began with a full slate of races. Headlining the group of Skip Barber Racing School graduates were Colin Braun and Hannah Greenemeier. The duo took home top honors in their respective classes with Braun clinching two wins in the Pro-Am class of GT World Challenge America and Greenemeier claiming a victory in the Am class of GT4 America. Graduate Westin Workman finished both races of the Toyota GR Cup North America weekend on the podium. Former Skip Barber Race Series winner and championship contender Jaxon Bell is making a smooth transition from open-wheel racing to sportscars as proven by a pair of top-five finishes this weekend. Finally, Mia Lovell added two top-ten results to the accolades amassed by Skip Barber Racing School graduates in GR Cup. Across the nation, the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series descended on Martinsville for a triple-header of races. Skip Barber Racing School alumni Christian Eckes started the weekend off with a bang by winning the Long John Silver’s 200. Eckes started second but clinched both stage victories and led 133 laps on his way to his second victory of the season. Chandler Smith followed up his win last week at Richmond Raceway with a strong third-place result in the DUDE Wipes 250 on Saturday. Bubba Wallace put a bow on the NASCAR weekend with one of his finest short-track performances. The Skip Barber graduate was second in qualifying, second after both stages and ended the night with a strong fourth-place result. His consistent efforts earned him 51 points, the most of any driver in the race. Graduates Joey Logano (6th), Tyler Reddick (7th), and Alex Bowman (8th) also finished in the top ten. Finally, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez finished the Japanese Grand Prix in second and is second in the World Driver’s Championship standings. Looking ahead, the NTT IndyCar Series grid will spend the middle of the week at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the Indianapolis 500 open test. This weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will travel to Texas Motor Speedway.
