The NTT IndyCar Series wrapped its 2023 season with the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. The re-pave at historic Laguna Seca brought higher speeds and diverse challenges to the entire field. A hectic, caution-filled race ended with Alexander Rossi leading the field of Skip Barber Racing School graduates with a seventh-place finish. Over the course of the 2023 IndyCar season, Skip Barber Racing School graduates won six races, including the Indianapolis 500 with Josef Newgarden. Later in the year, Newgarden would go on to sweep the doubleheader in Iowa. Andretti Autosport’s Kyle Kirkwood added two wins at street circuits in Long Beach and Nashville. Colton Herta’s pair of pole positions at Road America and Mid-Ohio helped Skip Barber graduates clinch three poles throughout the year. Additionally, Skip Barber graduates led the most laps in six of the season’s seventeen races. Over the course of the year, nine different graduates of the Skip Barber Racing School competed in at least one race including Helio Castroneves, Ed Carpenter, and Alexander Rossi. In Kansas, the NASCAR Cup Series ran the second race of the 2023 playoffs where Joey Logano ended the afternoon as the best-placed Skip Barber Racing School graduate. Logano leapfrogged to the front of the field with a bold strategy call to take only two tires for an overtime restart. He fended off others on four tires to finish fifth and turn what had been a challenging race into a strong points day. Bubba Wallace was well on his way to an impressive finish in his 23XI Racing Toyota before a tire failure derailed his afternoon. Wallace was the reigning race winner at Kansas and was running second at the time of the puncture. The team worked to repair the car but having lost laps to the leader, there was little Wallace could do to scrape back the lost ground. Earlier in the weekend, Skip Barber graduate John Hunter Nemechek won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Kansas Speedway. The win was his sixth of the year and his 915 laps led this season is more than three times greater than any other driver. Down in the Southern Hemisphere, Skip Barber Race Team’s Celso Neto returned to his native Brazil to compete in NASCAR Brasil at the Autódromo Velo Città. Neto finished seventh and fifth in the pair of sprint races with his best performance coming in race two where he climbed fourteen positions to finish in the top five. Neto has spent the 2023 season driving in TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School where has collected seven podiums and is currently third in the standings. Looking ahead to next weekend, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns to the fray with the much-anticipated sprint race from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The NASCAR Cup Series will close out the Round of 16 under the lights at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Sergio Perez, meanwhile, will carry the Skip Barber Racing School banner at the Singapore Grand Prix.
