Skip Barber Racing School graduate Chris Buescher finished second in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race, missing the win in the AdventHealth 400 by the closest margin in NASCAR Cup Series history. Buescher emerged as a contender in the second half of the race by winning Stage 2 before falling just 0.001 seconds shy of his sixth career win. Other Skip Barber Racing School alumni in the top ten of Sunday’s race were Alex Bowman (7th), Kyle Busch (8th), Noah Gragson (9th), and Michael McDowell (10th). Gragson’s ninth-place finish extends his top-ten streak to three races as the Nevadan continues to impress in the Stewart-Haas entry. With the NASCAR Xfinity Series taking the weekend off, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series took center stage on Saturday with the Heart of America 200. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Zane Smith led 29 laps en route to a second-place finish. Just behind Smith was fellow Skip Barber alumni Christian Eckes who was third. Graduates Tanner Gray (7th) and Matt Crafton (10th) also finished in the top ten. In Miami, Formula 1 descended upon America for the first time this season and Sergio Perez returned to the nation where he got his start in car racing with the Skip Barber Racing School. Perez was third in the sprint race and fourth in the main race. He remains in second place in the World Driver’s Championship. Just up the road from Miami is the Sebring International Circuit where the full offering of SRO America series took to the track. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Robby Foley scored two podiums, including a win in Race 2, of the Pro-Am class in GT World Challenge America. Fellow alumni Colin Braun joined him on Race 2’s Pro-Am podium. Skip Barber alumni Hannah Greenemeier finished third in Race 2 of the GT4 America weekend while graduates Westin Workman and Jaxon Bell each finished second and third, respectively, in the pair of Toyota GR Cup North America races. For the second event in a row, Skip Barber Racing’s Alex Garcia was awarded the Hard Charger Award after passing 15 cars in Race 1. Next weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Craftsman Truck Series will visit Darlington Raceway. The NTT IndyCar Series will kick off its May festivities with the Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.
