Skip Barber National Opens This Weekend

Monday, March 06, 2006 Here we go! The eighth season of the Skip Barber National Presented by RACER opens this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The National is the featured support series for the inaugural A1 Grand Prix of Nations, and rounds one and two of the 14-race championship are Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Skip Barber National drivers practice three times on Friday, with qualifying for race one Saturday, 9:30 a.m. local. The green flag for the first race follows at 1:15 local (10:15 a.m. Eastern). Q2 is Sunday at 9:15, with the second race going off at high noon (9:00 a.m. Eastern). Laguna Seca master Bryan Herta is the U.S.A. driver for the A1GP races. Herta came up through the Skip Barber system in the early 1990s (school, then Western Race Series, then 1991 Barber Dodge champ). Herta’s going to attend a Skip Barber National drivers meeting over the weekend to pass on some sage advice to the crop of young pros. Stay tuned to the Skip Barber website over the weekend, as we’ll be posting times, photos and results as soon as possible after each session. Here’s the entry list as of Monday, March 6: Andrew Carbonell Marco Di Leo Alex Doman Duncan Ende Jason Fennessey Eric Freiberg Jonathan Goring Richard Heistand Peter Husser Kyle Lawrence Timmy Megenbier Joel Miller Justin Moon Mario Adrian Ochoa ‘‘Enzo’’ Pastor Andy Rossetto Alexander Rossi Cory Turner Quentin Wahl Kyle Wiegand
