The Skip Barber Race Series crowned a first-time winner and saw two drivers make their podium debuts over a pair of races at VIRginia International Raceway. In what was perhaps the most closely matched field of drivers this season, Alan Orzynski broke through to claim his first career victory, while Trevor LaTourrette and Robert Mosteller cracked the podium. No driver earned more points this week than LaTourrette, as his pair of second-place finishes delivered him 64 points. That haul solidified his position in the top five of the Skip Barber Race Series standings and placed him within striking distance of fourth. LaTourrette was also the biggest mover in Race 1, climbing three spots from his fifth-place starting position. Alongside LaTourrette on Race 2’s podium was rookie Robert Mosteller. Mosteller, in just his second Skip Barber Race Series event, showed early pace in the opening practice session. A quick lap in Race 1 gave him a front-row start for Race 2—an opportunity that he capitalized on to secure his first podium finish. “The key was really just to listen to the coaches and take every bit of feedback to heart,” Mosteller explained. “That’s how we were able to shave off three seconds over the whole weekend as well—just exercising patience and letting bits of the race come to me. It felt amazing to stand on the podium. It was truly a childhood dream come true, and I can’t wait to see the top step soon,” he added. Joining Mosteller and LaTourrette on Race 2’s podium was Alan Orzynski who, after eight podium finishes this season, finally delivered a drive that put him on the top step. Spain’s Ivan Machado Perez, who will enter the final race of the season at Laguna Seca as the favorite for the championship title, took home the victory in Race 1. Brazil’s Naim Saleh earned his seventh podium finish of the season and moved to third in the Skip Barber Race Series standings. Saleh now has at least one podium finish in five of the six rounds he has competed in. That consistency and ability to bounce back have kept his name near the sharp end of the standings. Another standout performance came from Logan Anderson, who set a new personal benchmark for points earned in one round thanks to a pair of fourth-place finishes. Anderson was just 0.04 seconds shy of the podium in Race 1. Meanwhile, Skip Barber Race Series rookie Scott Pyle collected another pair of top-five finishes. Since joining the grid at Watkins Glen, Pyle has notched four top-five finishes in six starts. Skip Barber Race Series director Mike Ogren was complimentary of Pyle’s efforts in coming up to speed. “Scott has shown tremendous potential in the few races he has done,” Ogren said. “He brings a positive attitude and excellent mindset to each Race Series event, and I’m confident he will continue to lay down strong performances in future races.” One key trait that sets the Skip Barber Race Series apart is the spec nature of the chassis. Each driver is randomly assigned a vehicle at the start of each Race Series event, and this season has seen six different chassis take wins and 14 different chassis appear on the podium.
